Chassis Shower Primer Review

Gents, let’s be honest: the placement of our “man gear” was not exactly designed for optimal freshness.

Due to basic male anatomy, our undercarriages are highly prone to sweat, odor and funk—both in front and in back. This is especially true if you’re an active guy or if you live in a warm climate.

Many guys use men’s body powder after bathing to help stay dry and fresh throughout the day. And not long ago, I wrote about my positive experience with Chassis Premium Powder—a talc-free men’s powder made by a company that specializes in “Man Care for Down There.”

Recently I had the chance to try out another product from the Chassis line: their Shower Primer.

Chassis Shower Primer Review

Full disclosure, Chassis sponsored this review. But after my positive experience with Chassis Premium Powder, I was curious to find out more about Chassis Shower Primer.

Chassis Powder does a great job combating moisture, odor, and reducing friction when applied after a shower. But let’s be honest, if you’re not getting that area fully clean to start with, you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Even if you think your “boys” never sweat and are as fresh as an autumn breeze, you can’t tell me your backside isn’t a hostile environment.

Chassis Shower Primer provides a deep clean that removes funk and unwanted particles—especially when you leave it in for the recommended 30 seconds. It’s particularly helpful since many of us have extra hair back there that makes getting fully clean difficult.

Yes, But Isn’t Soap Enough?

Soap is certainly a good start and it helps clean the area somewhat. But here’s where the specialized formula for Chassis Shower Primer helps:

Chassis Shower Primer was designed to not only cleanse and eliminate odor but to also moisturize your skin and soften body hair to reduce chafing.

The hair-softening aspect is probably one of the most unique aspects of this product. I personally hadn’t thought of this need before. But as Chassis was doing research to develop the Shower Primer, they found that a small proportion of men were already using regular conditioner to soften hair “down there.”

In combination with the Powder, Chassis Shower Primer helps leave you feeling clean, smooth and friction-free throughout the day.

Can I Just Use it As a Full Body Wash?

While you certainly CAN use the Shower Primer for the rest of your body and hair, it’s meant to be a targeted product for your undercarriage. And because it was developed specifically for that purpose, it could get pricey if you doused your whole body with it every time you showered.

As with the powder, Chassis spared no expense when it came to the formula for Shower Primer. Many of the unique botanical ingredients read more like something off a menu at a trendy gastropub:

  • Hops
  • Aloe
  • Oatmeal
  • Witch Hazel
  • Pumpkin seed

It’s also free of many of the less-desirable ingredients that are found in lots of men’s (and women’s) grooming products: no talc, no aluminum, no parabens, and no menthol.

Fortunately, you need only about ¼ teaspoon of the Shower Primer to clean your business in front and back. That means the average user can get about 4-6 months of out the 9.5 ounce bottle.

It’s Not for Everybody

If you’ve never used something like this, you might not be able to appreciate the benefits at first. But once you try it, your tastes and expectations will likely change. It’s much like when you first use an electric tootbrush—when you’ve only ever used a manual one—and you get addicted to that clean, smooth feeling on the surface of your teeth.

If you think about it, using a specialized product for this region isn’t so strange. Most of us don’t think twice about using targeted products like deodorant for our pits or shampoo & conditioner for our hair.

Sometimes I wonder why something like this hasn’t caught on sooner. Is it because our man bits are so much further away from our noses than our armpits? Maybe if our anatomy was organized differently, we would make this more of a priority…

My Experience With Chassis Shower Primer

While I had a great experience with Chassis Premium Powder, the Shower Primer was a new category for me. So I didn’t know what to expect.

Based on the positive reviews and the list of ingredients, at face value the Shower Primer seemed like a solid product that did what it said.

But results aside, you and I both know that if you don’t enjoy USING a product, you’re not going to make it part of your regular routine. So I decided to put the Shower Primer to the test.

The Smell

With these types of products, smell is a big factor—it’s often the first thing you notice after the packaging. Chassis Shower Primer has the same fresh, masculine scent as the powder. I’d describe it as vaguely “barbershoppy.” It’s manly without having that over-the-top smell of cheapo cologne that some men’s product have.

The Gel

The first thing I noticed is how thick the gel was. It was white and semi-opaque. Apparently, you don’t need to use much at all—again, only about ¼ teaspoon. After applying it in the shower, it lathered up ever-so-slightly. I braced myself for a shock of coolness or minty-ness, but I was happy to note that the sensation was nothing beyond any other mild shampoo or body wash.

An Unexpected Benefit

According to the directions, you should keep Shower Primer on for a full 30 seconds before rinsing to allow the formula to work on your skin and hair. It sounds silly, but in contrast to my usual “autopilot” shower routine, the forced waiting time was a nice exercise in mindfulness—much like the way using a safety razor and badger brush can slow down your shaving routine and make it almost meditative.

The Clean Feeling

After rinsing off and getting out of the shower, I definitely felt very fresh. The skin and hair were smooth, and I felt like I had gotten a thorough cleaning. After drying off for a bit, I applied the powder, and it was like a double-layer of confidence throughout the rest of my day.

And that’s just it: the Shower Primer gives you one more extra layer of peace-of-mind to go through your day without worrying about odor, funk, or chafing. Rather than just throwing powder on after the fact, the Shower Primer helps you start with a completely clean slate.

Conclusion

If you never struggle with odor and chafing down there—or aren’t aware that you do—you may not be ready to appreciate what Chassis Shower Primer can do for you.

But…if you’ve begun to pay more attention to your nether regions, it may be worth considering. Especially if you’re already using a powder like Chassis Premium Powder, adding Chassis Shower Primer can give you an even more enhanced experience…and the added protection to get through your day.

If you’re interested, you can get the full line of Chassis products on the Chassis website. You can also find Chassis on Amazon.
