One of the nice things about classic cocktails is that most of them have very few ingredients—which means they’re easy to make. So it’s only natural that if you develop a taste for, say, the Martini or the Old Fashioned, that you’d eventually try making one at home.
But even if you have the right ingredients, when you’re in your kitchen on a random Wednesday night, you might be tempted to skimp on presentation.
Don’t get me wrong, that perfectly chilled gin and vermouth probably still tastes divine in that team-building mug you stole from work. But wouldn’t the experience be better if your drink was resting luxuriously in a Martini glass topped with a handsome garnish? Half of the fun of cocktails is the ritual of making the drink, along with that presentation aspect of finding the perfect glass and the perfect garnish.
Glassware is fairly easy to sort out (read this article for a few suggestions), but what about the garnish? In this video, I share 2 simple garnishes that look fancy, but are actually incredibly easy to do: the lemon twist and the flamed orange peel.
If you decide to give these a try at home, let me know how it goes in the comments below. Cheers!
