Gentlemen, there’s no easy way to put this. So I’ll just go ahead and say it.
If you think your outfit is complete because you’re wearing a nice suit, pressed shirt and a perfectly tied tie, you are sadly mistaken.
Style-wise, you’re still playing in the minor leagues until you’ve added that final finishing touch: the pocket square.
A pocket square is that final flourish on your suit, the pop of color, the visual accent, that shows your outfit is complete.
I know what you’re thinking: but I don’t want to draw attention to myself. I’m not that flamboyant, I don’t want to wear a loud outfit.
Actually, that’s the beauty of the pocket square. It doesn’t have to be a ridiculous, clown-like, neon polka dot pocket square. It can be as understated as you want.
And as Antonio at Real Men Real Style points out, the pocket square can also work well in a more casual getup as well. Going less formal? Skip the tie and just do a pocket square instead. Suddenly your outfit possibilities just expanded!
After you start wearing pocket squares you may find that you’re addicted. You may even feel like suits are “naked” without them.
One thing’s for sure: wearing a pocket square will get you noticed. And I mean in a good way.
In this video, I talk about why you should wear pocket squares. And then I show you 7 different classy ways to fold a pocket square, from a few basic folds, to some more advanced folds.
If you end up giving it a try, let me know how it goes in the comments below! Do you have a favorite fold?
Thanks so much! I keep forgetting how to properly fold pocket squares, and it’s always better to wear one than not. I’ve frequently gotten comments from people who notice this small, but important accessory for men!
Thanks Roy! Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
