Original Stitch Review

My adventure with Original Stitch made-to-measure shirts

In this review of Original Stitch, I walk through each step of creating a shirt from scratch (well, nearly from scratch…)

If you’ve never purchased a made-to-measure shirt, you’re missing out.

Imagine if you could get clothes fitted precisely to your body measurements, without the hefty prices that usually go along with “bespoke” or “custom” clothing.

That’s what you can get with made-to-measure.

Recently I had a chance to create my own shirt through Original Stitch, a company based in San Francisco that makes all its shirts by hand in Japan.

Full disclosure, Original Stitch did give me a shirt for free. But they had no input into this review, and I’m not an affiliate of Original Stitch. Nor are they an advertiser or sponsor.

In the video review above, I bring you along through the entire experience of ordering a shirt from Original Stitch—from my initial selection of fabric, to the collar I choose, to the cuffs…even down to entering my custom measurements and selecting my “fit feel.” At the end, you’ll see the shirt I created and find out my assessment of the process and the final product.

Let me know what you think of the video. I can’t lie—I had some fun making this one…

Also, if you’ve tried Original Stitch or a similar made-to-measure company, I would love to hear about your experience. Leave a note below in the comments!

Note: Since my experience ordering a shirt, Original Stitch has now rolled out an even more comprehensive “full bespoke” service that involves taking 10 different body measurements.

I just ordered one on February 1, 2016 and it has been tracked to a NY Post Office on the 18th. I’m excited about receiving my first custom made shirt. I was a little surprised that these shirts were coming from Japan being as though they’re based in San Francisco. Question, have you ordered other shirts since your first order. I had a 50% discount on my first shirt and anticipating ordering more if this one turns out to be what I’m expecting, but my pockets have to be on point too….LOL. These aren’t cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Hey Kevin, yes it is pretty crazy that these shirts come all the way from Japan! I ordered one additional shirt since my initial order, and I was definitely happy with it. It is more expensive than an off-the-rack option, but I like that the made-to-measure shirts fit me like a glove. Good luck with your order. Let me know how yours goes!

I ordered a shirt from Original Stitch on March 24th. The shirt arrived April 22. Quite a bit longer than the 15 days they advertise. The shirt sleeves and tail was a good 4″ too short and the fit was way too small. I started the remake process and could not finish. I tried to get back on to finish the remake process. However after many emails that are totally ignored, I am going to do a charge back on my credit card. I do not recommend this site.

Original order produced an apparently well made shirt but was far too small. A free remake resulted in… …a shirt that was too small despite advising correct sizing. Also the second shirt incurred additional custom charges of £17.50!
    Do not use.

    Total Crap!!!
Ordered 9/13 and arrived 10/6. This would be fine if the shirt were acceptable. Fit is great. Buttons are coming off already. Fabric is garbage. Once ironed the act of putting the shirt on and buttoning it results in an ugly, wrinkled mess. Do not waste your money on this garbage.
