What is this Movember, you ask?
Every year in November, thousands of men in the US and around the world grow mustaches in support of men’s health. While it’s not necessary, you can actually register through the Movember website and create a page where people can make donations on your behalf.
Even if you don’t formally register, “stache-ing up” during Movember is a great way to show your support. As the Movember website says, “Mo Bros [guys who do Movember] effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.”
The downside, of course, is that by participating, many of us look ridiculous for the month of November. I usually have a beard, but when my mustache is forced to do a solo performance, sometimes it’s a little shy. Even when it’s growing well (during a past ‘stache experiment one colleague said I reminded her of Tom Selleck–booyah!), my girlfriend acts like I have a dead rat on my lip. Apparently the ‘stache lacks the aphrodisiac effects I was hoping it would provide…ah well.
In any case, it’s still a lot of fun to challenge yourself to growing a mustache, and it’s even better when you’re doing it with some friends.
It’s not too late to get involved. Technically you’re supposed to shave completely and start fresh November 1st. But I don’t think anyone’s going to mind if you join the party a few days late. Especially since it’s for a good cause.

Or, if you just want to support from the sidelines, you can make a general donation to the cause here.
May the ‘stache be with you!
